Episode
One - Im here!
I am here in Cairo at the moment, and it is very hot and very dirty.
I got the flight with four other women and we are all getting on
well. We also met up with three other people from our trip in our
hotel. The flight was ok and shorter than I thought. It took three
hours to fly out to Athens and a further hour to get to Cairo, but
we had to wait for a couple of hours for our connecting flight.
The hotel we are staying in is ok. It looks pretty ropey when you
first see it, but the beds are really comfy and there is hot running
water. One guy we are with: Scott, a Kiwi, has been here a while
and knows his way round, so that is handy. I am the youngest so
far, most others are 25 - 30.
I dont know what we are going to do for the rest of the day at the
moment, probably go to a museum later, after the others have got
their student cards. I already have one and the give you huge discounts
in museums and the pyramids and stuff.
The taxi ride from the hotel was well dodgy. There were five of
us in a normal size car (six including the driver) and all our kit.
There doesnt seem to be any rules when it comes to driving. Nobody
drives in a lane, and some people didnt even have lights on their
cars. We got here in one piece though.
Jody Kidd, the manky pooper-scooper super model was on our flight,
she's rough as arse-holes.
I think thats about it for now. Theres plenty of these internet
cafes around here, but Im not sure about other places. I'll keep
in touch as much as possible, See ya, Dunk.
Episode two - Lubberly Jubberly
I am fine, thanks for all the replys I got. Half of our group is
here and we are all getting on well. We went out last night for
some food and then went to the market on the bus. I have now done
a few bus rides and am getting used to the traffic. We had a quick
look round the market and then went to a cafe where we partook in
the local sheesha. It isnt ganj or anything, its just flavoured
tobacco. We had apple and then tried some strawberry. Quite Nice.
Today some of us went to the pyramids while others sorted out their
Visas. It is quite far away from the hotel, but we managed it nonetheless.
The pyramids are very impressive to look at and you dont see them
until you are literally right next to them because they are in the
middle of town. It was a bit surreal actually. The place was pretty
busy, and there were locals all the time trying to flog bookmarks,
postcards and all sorts of other crap. You just have to be nice
and tell them no. Then there is the camel guys.. "You want
camel ride? I give you good price." All the time. Their camels
have good names though. We met Rose (who was a male!?), Minnie Mouse
and Michael Jackson. "Where are you from.. Australia, New Zealand?"
"No, Im English" "Aah.. You from England.. Lubberly
Jubberly!! You ride my camel??" and so on, and so forth...
I got some good photos though, actually I went in one of the pyramids,
one of the two bigger ones. I just walked up a steep, low, narrow
tunnel for ages, then got to an square room with a stone coffin
at one end. Not really that amazing, but still interesting.
Now I am going to head back to the hotel, I think the rest of the
group may be there by now, they should have arrived late last night
all being well. See you soon, Dunk.
Episode three - Getting Bored
I am still here in Cairo, but itching to move on. You cant really
spend more than a couple of days here without getting bored. Our
next port of call is the coastal town of Dahab. Some people on the
trip have been there before and say it is really nice. Our driver
still hasnt arrived, although he should be here today. If he doesnt
get here today then we will make our way to Dahab because he wont
be here for another week.
I went to visit a museum today, which is right over the road from
our hotel. It is massive and you could spend all day in there but
all I wanted to see was the stuff they pulled out of Tutan Khamuns
tomb. He had a shitload of stuff for a dead guy! There were things
from his childhood and clothes, chairs and jewellery. The best bit
was his coffin, or coffins. He was buried in about three fancy coffins,
and then put in a big box, in another big box and sealed in the
tomb. I saw his big gold head mask thing which went over his mummified
body and that was pretty amazing.
After getting back from the museum, I just went back to the hotel,
read my book and relaxed. The food out here is pretty safe and tastes
good, so we are not getting hungry just yet. I dont know what we
are doing tonight yet. More relaxing I would imagine. See ya! Dunk
xx
Episode four - Still here, blah blah blah
Unfortunately Im still in Cairo, but our driver turned up yesterday,
so thats one good thing. We are having a total mare with the sudan
Visas, but hopefully we can pick these up as we go.
The plan for tonight is to go to the pyramids again to see the lightshow
which is apparently pretty good. Then tomorrow, early morning we
are going to visit a camel market.
I havent had the chance to get pissed yet. I think the off-licence
is round here somewhere, but apparently it is pretty expensive.
We will probably buy some drink for the trip to Dahab. If not, there
is plenty of places to drink there, because it is by the sea, and
thats all people do. We should be staying in Dahab for five or six
days, which is long enough to get our PADI open water driving cert.
I think most of us want to do this. It is expensive, but what the
hell, its only money.
The women here are very nice people, I havent seen many fit locals
though, so Emma, there is nothing to be worried about. They are
all a bit old for me anyway. Didnt I say that yesterday??
I MISS THE BORO!! Bye Bye, Dunk x
Episode five - Dahab
We got to Dahab at the time expected, but we left our hotel at 12
midnight instead of 10. It is so nice being here. the bus journey
was pretty bad, but it was worth it. This place is a small paradise,
the complete opposite of Cairo. It is completely relaxed, the people
dont hassle so much here, and it is pretty clean.
Yesterday I went round to find out about diving. Five of us are
doing it together, and we chose a good dive school - There are loads
here, and started today. We did some classroom stuff, learning about
equipment and stuff. Then later we went into the sea. Today and
tomorrow we only do shallow, neck-high water to learn about commands
and breathug, and floatation. Then on day 3 we go to 12 metres,
then day 4 to 18. We get a free dive after passing too, so that
has saved us a bit.
The setting here is so good, we are right on the seafront, like
5 metres away. There are bars all along it, but you sit on the floor,
on cushions , under a roof made of palm-leaf and bamboo. It really
is the best.. hot sun, lapping waves and a nice, cold beer in your
hand. No skateparks though.
I have to go now and do some homework for the diving. Bye bye. Love
Dunk xx
Episode six - Space Cake and Punch
Still in Dahab, the weather is good, not too hot, but the flies
are out in force. I am half way through my diving course. Went to
12 meters today, to a coral reef just off the end of the beach.
It was really cool, loads of big colourful fish, and the most amazing
landscape. The diving has taken up nearly all of my time, leaving
the evenings free to have a big meal with the rest of the group.,
making the most of all the free food we can scam out of the local
restaurant owners. What a beautiful thing low season is. Yesterday
our meal took ages to get to us, so today to make up for it, the
boss made us all a big chocolate hash cake, which went down a treat.
We will still be here for another six days or so, so I will have
plenty of time for relaxation after the diving is done.
I hope all is ok with you lot. We are having a Halloween party here
tomorrow night, so I reckon that should be good. We have been offered
free punch from the same restaurant guy as tonight, so in the next
couple of days when all the diving is complete we will all go out
and celebrate.
I am feeling mashed, so I am going to beddybyes. See you all soon,
Dunk.
Episode seven - I'm Qualified!
You are now in correspondence with a fully qualified, PADI assured
open water diver. I passed my final exam today, and completed my
fourth loggable dive. We swam through this massive coral dome which
was not very big inside. When people are in there blowing bubbles
it looks like a massive jacuzzi with millions of bubbles filtering
through the rock. I floating above this huge hole in the floor too
that you could not see the bottom of, and that was pretty scary.
It felt like you should be sucked into it or something, it was absolutely
excellent.
I hear the HELLoween party was a goodun, we had one here too. I
wrapped myself in a bog roll and went as a mummy, but it all kind
of fell apart before the night even got started, oh well, it was
enough to get me a free drink for dressing up. We also had a grim
reaper, an executioner, a geisha girl, a Roman and a tree.
We got our Sudanese Visas, which means the trip is back on track.
We thought we wouldnt get them, but it all fell into place in the
end. We are the first group the Sudanese Government has issued visas
to for over a year, so we were lucky to get them. We will probably
leave Dahab on monday and go back to Cairo for two nights to stock
up on food for the journey across Sudan. We want to get in and out
of there as quick as possible.
Tomorrow I am going to sleep until about 2 o'clock to make up for
all the early mornings I have been forced to have due to the diving.
If anyone gets a chance to do any diving, especially in the Red
Sea, I highly recommend you do it, you wont regret it.
See ya, Dunk xx
Episode eight - Quickie
Just a quickie today. We got our truck this morning - what a beast!
It is massive. We should be leaving Dahab tomorrow, so that is good.
Got really pissed last night, and rolled into bed about 5:30, not
before winning thirty quid on pool, though. I am going on a night
dive tonight, which should be really good, then coming back for
a spit-roast sheep, nice.
See ya, Dunk.
Episode nine - Tired Hangover
Today has been the most lazy day I have had in ages. I went out
on the piss again last night, played more pool, not for money this
time, and had far, far too much to drink. It was a good night, with
me getting to bed at the fairly reasonable hour of 3:30, so I got
up today at 11:30, had brekkie and went to bed again. It is 4:30
now and I have just got up. I am still tired, so I will go back
to bed after this until tea.
The night dive was wicked, pretty scary though. I kept thinking
a big fish would come up from behind and chew my legs off. We saw
this huge moray eel, about 2 meters long which was very cool. When
we turned the torches off under the water and waved our hands the
bacteria lights up. It looks like sparkly dust.
There is a bonfire at a local bar tonight, so we are all going to
that. I dont feel like drinking too much though. We leave here tomorrow,
back to Cairo for one day to get food and spares, then head down
to Sudan and Ethiopia. It will be good to finally get going in the
wagon.
Thats it for now, see ya, Dunk.
Episode ten - Gimp Suits and Donkey Rides
Greetings my beloved children.
Today I am feeling cleansed and holy because yesterday I climbed
Mount Sinai. For those of you who dont know, and I know you all
will because I know how much all you monkeys love the Bible, this
is where Moses went to receive the 10 commandments. I climbed up
there at about 11pm, getting to the top by about 1:30 - 2ish, but
all the remaining commandments had been taken by the 20 or so people
already in their thermal bags of slumber. I awoke at 5:30 to witness
the sun rise over the mountains. It was good. I liked it. It was
fun. Then I walked down again to get my sausage and egg brekkie.
8 hours after leaving the base of Mt Sinai we ROCKED back up to
the sun hotel, Cairo where we will stay for another 2 nights to
buy food and truck spares. We also hope to obtain 2 massive speakers
to put on the top of the truck when we get to cap grounds so we
can crank up the beats. This will hopefully be run off a separate
battery so the Hell Wagon still rolls.
In Dahab I acquired the nickname, 'The Gimp.' This is basically
because I couldnt get enough of my skin-tight black wetsuit, and
kept skipping around and slapping my arse with joy. I have got my
own gimp bow under the floor of the wagon, which I fit into nicely.
Thats me about up to date for now. The tour guide JP has organised
for us to visit the Valley of the Kings in Luxor, by donkey. I reckon
that will be really cool. You wish you were me, dont you?
Im off to try and see if I can get more drunk than I did in Dahab
. See ya. The Gimp.
Episode eleven - Aswan
I am now in Aswan somewhere a bit further away from Luxor, where
I was for the last 2 days. It is still really hot but it is ok.
We had a massive food fight with one of the other tour trucks from
a different company on the way to luxor. we egged them good and
proper, point blank through their side curtain and hid some fat
bird in the back. It was well funny, considering we were doing about
50mph at the time.
I went to the valley of the kings yesterday, where there are loads
of tombs of old pharaoh kings and stuff. it was really good, especially
seeing as we got there on donkeys. Me and my friend stu were in
hysterics for about the first ten minutes every time we looked at
each other. DONKKEYS ARE SO CRAP! My legs really ache now but it
was worth it. In the evening I went to the Karnak Temple to take
some photos. The shadows were really good so hopefully they will
come out well.
Tomorrow, and for the next three days I will be going down the Nile
with 6 others in a Felucca. This is a small sail boat and basically
you just sit back and enjoy. They do the meals and steer the boat
leaving plenty of time to get drunk.
I have managed to stay sunburn free since I got here which is pretty
amazing I think, considering how easily I get burned. my arms have
gone a bit brown, but I have been trying to stay in the shade as
much as possible. I am glad to hear the weather over in blighty
is hot and sunny as usual, it would be a bummer if it was cold and
wet all the time. HA!
Anyway, thats about all for now. I'm going to go out now and get
hassled by some annoying local. They are really getting on my tits.
I'll write in a few days. See ya.
Gimp. xx
Episode twelve - Last for a While?
I am still here in Aswan, waiting around to go to sudan tomorrow.
I have spent the last three days on the Nile on a felucca which
is a small boat. This was really good, there were 7 of us on our
boat and 2 crew. There is no room to sit down because it is basically
one big floor with cushions round the edge. The meals that the crew
cooked for us were really good, in fact probably the best food I
have had since entering the country. In the evenings we sat round
a camp fire and sang songs with the crew people playing the drums.
It was really good fun, lots of drinking, sun bathing and generally
just chilling out.
After we got back me and stu, one of the guys I am travelling with,
went to the village where our captain lives. He showed us round
a bit, gave us a really good meal and showed us pictures of his
friends abroad. He is a really nice bloke, which makes a change
from the normal Egyptian folk around here.
This morning I had to get up at about 3.00am to go and visit a temple
called Abi Simbel. This is the temple with the four pharaoh figures
sitting, carved in to the mountain. it was pretty impressive to
see but there wasn't many really good photos to be taken.
After today I wont be able to check my email for quite a while,
I am not sure how long exactly but it could be weeks. I will email
when I get the chance though.
This Sunday I have been away for a month. Its gone pretty
quick for me. See you in 14 weeks.
Dunk. x
Episode thirteen - Khartoum!
well hello, long time no see.
At the moment I am in Khartoum, the capital of Sudan. According
to the shit talking Americans this place is really dangerous and
I should technically be dead, killed by western hating Muslims.
Utter wubbish. The people here are very friendly and helpful, as
with most of the other supposedly dangerous places we have been
to. Other sources say that this city is probably one of the safest
cities in the whole of Africa, and from what I have seen so far
I would believe that.
Since my last contact I have crossed lake Nasser on a big cargo
ship crammed in with shit loads of market traders stock (chairs
/ tupperware etc), stayed for 4 days in the arse end of nowhere
shipping town of Wadi Halfa in sudan whilst waiting for the truck
to catch up on a separate ferry, Spent 2-3 days digging the truck
out of the sand every 50 feet in 40 degree heat with locals getting
in the way and the remainder of the time being thrown around in
the back of the truck like a rag doll whilst going along bumpy roads.
We got to Khartoum last night though safe and sound, even though
we did take the truck the wrong way down a one way street, and have
to shove overhead cables out of the way to stop them getting snagged
on our roof mounted spare tyres.
As we get nearer to the equator the weather is getting increasingly
hot, But the heat will become more humid as we go south rather than
the searing sun we have to deal with at the moment.
We should be here for about another 2 nights while we obtain our
travel permits, then we will go through Ethiopia and on to Nairobi.
There we will pick up a load more travellers and take a detour for
a couple of weeks into other parts of Kenya to do a gorilla safari,
then back to Nairobi to drop off the other travellers and celebrate
new year.
I am not sure what the internet access is like in Ethiopia. I expect
Addis Ababa will have some sort of connection but I cant be sure.
After then I think it will be more widely available.
That's pretty much it for the time being, See you soon.
Dunk
Episode fourteen - Addis Ababa
I've got to keep this short because I am paying far too much for
the privilege of using this email. I am in the Hilton in Addis Ababa
dont you know!!
Everything is good at the moment, weather is hot and I have been
drinking lots. Thanks for the emails, good to hear from you all,
and thanks for the letters which I got today.
Lots has been happening lately, went to a couple of Ethiopian clubs
which were interesting, the truck keeps breaking but is ok, the
driver parked out 18 ton monster in the boot of some guys car the
other week at about 40mph which was funny, not as funny as the guy
going crazy and throwing a crow bar at the truck though! we were
all ok though so it was just funny.
I will be here for another night, the we go to Nairobi and pick
up some more passengers for a 2 week gorilla trek. that should be
cool. from then on we will be doing loads of adventure sports which
I am looking forward to.
ok, brief I no but I have got to go. miss you all.
Dunk.
Episode fifteen - Happy Chrimbo
I am now in Nairobi in Kenya after a rollercoaster ride through
the wilderness for the last 2 months. Along the way the truck has
broken just about every day for the last 2 weeks, we have had to
carry an armed guard on board on the first leg of the Kenya trip
due to trigger happy bandits, and been hassled by glue sniffing
youths.
That said, this place is very civilised and pretty western, so we
are not getting ripped off left right and centre. We have seen loads
of wildlife so far, not even on a game drive though. WE were just
bumbling through this big plane and saw elephants, giraffes and
baboons. quite weird really.
Tomorrow we are going to start a 2 week gorilla trek which sounds
amazing. I thought we would be a good distance away, but apparently
you are like 1 metre away and some people have been prodded and
poked by the gorillas.
The weather is pretty warm here at the moment. Not as hot as it
has been but still up to about 25 sometimes. I saw the first bit
of rain in nearly 2 months recently which was good. It is a bit
overcast now and looks a bit threatening so I wont do my washing
yet.
Tonight we are going out (50 of us) to a restaurant called carnivores
which specializes in exotic game meat like zebra and croc. It is
also a set price eat all you want deal so I think I will stuff my
self silly.
Well that's my news for now. I wish you a all a very happy Christmas
and new year, this will probably be the last till then.
See you all soon.
Dunk
Episode sixteen - Jambo!
So here we are, 10 days in to the new year already and It's been
pretty busy so far.
I am in Zanzibar at the moment, having holiday away from the truck.
The weather is really, really hot and humid but Im sure I
can put up with it. We are here for five nights he go back to the
mainland in Tanzania and then on to Malawi.
The new year celebrations were fun, many beer fights, alcohol funnels
that tasted of diesel (we used a pipe off the truck)and the good
ol' tequila stuntman (salt up nose, lemon in eye etc). There wasnt
many people there but we had a god time anyway.
A few days later we travelled from Kenya in to Tanzania and went
on safari or three days in the Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti
National Park. We saw everything it was just wicked. We saw a lioness
stalk and chase a wildebeest but with no kill, we saw millions of
wildebeest and zebra on their migration and hyenas and vultures
devouring a buffalo carcass with a big male lion munching on a leg
about 30 feet away. We also got attacked by eagles who wanted our
lunch and saw a leopard with a gazelle carcass in a tree. It was
one of the best things we have done on the trip so far.
We got to Zanzibar yesterday so havent really looked round that
much yet. At the moment we are on the search for a painting shop
we passed yesterday but with the maze of alleyways round here it
is easy to get lost. The old part of the island, Stone Town, looks
very Mediterranean it is really nice. In a couple of hours we are
going to get a taxi to the northern art of the island which I have
heard is more modern and cheaper to stay.
Thats it again for now, I bet you are all glad you are back at work
after new year. HA!
Se ya Dunk x
Episode seventeen - Ha Ha Ha
Just SPENT THE LAST THREEE nights in the north end of the island.
Mocho mocho white sand and really blue water with not many people
on it. Managed to get well sunburnt but ok now. I'm just going to
get the boat back off the island back on to the mainland , then
heading off to Malawi for a few days.
Haven't done any sightseeing or historical exploration, just got
pissed and played in the sand.
A few lucky people will be receiving lovely postcards in a week
or so depending on the Tanzanian postal service.
Ok, I'm going now
Bye then
Dunk xx
Episode eighteen - Malawia
Right then, Here I am in Malawi.
The weather has been piss poor for the last few days since we got
here, We stayed at a campground on the edge of lake Malawi last
week and got caught in the middle of the biggest storm I have witnessed.
Lightning was hitting the floor about 250 meters in front of us
and the thunder sounded like the thunder off dodgy horror films.
I haven't got malaria yet but I don't think that will last long.
We have had three go down with it so far and I have been bitten
quite a bit lately, and Malawi is the Malaria capital of Africa.
I think we have been lucky though, One of the other trucks has had
about 5 people go down with Cholera, 2 Malaria and the flu. Me and
My partner in crime, Eltan, made them feel better though by stealing
the big cattle horns off the front of their truck in a night of
Drunken shenanigans.
We haven't done many activities lately, just got drunk. WE bought
a pig the other day who was still alive, then one of the kiwi farmer
boys killed him and we had him for tea. The pig got the last laugh
though because he was really fatty and not that nice at all.
We are leaving Malawi tomorrow afternoon and camping on the Mozambique
border, then driving through for the day and getting to Zimbabwe
that evening. We will spend 4 days at Victoria falls where we will
do the bungee jumping or whatever. I think I am doing the gorge
swing instead of the bungee jump because you can do it as many times
as you want and it is apparently loads more fun.
Errm I cant think of anything else right now apart from I am still
having fun but it has had its moments when I could have thrown in
the towel. I am staying here though because there's no point coming
home this far into it, especially with the weather being so good
at home at the moment.
I'll be home in about 6 weeks ish. See ya.
Dunk x
Episode nineteen - Harare is grrreat!
I am now in Harare the capital of Zimbabwe, meaning there is only
three more countries to go. This city is really busy an westernised.
No hassles anywhere and it is really modern with fast food and whatever
else you want. The only thing is the internet is shit and slow so
I am a bit frustrated at the moment.
We are leaving for Vic falls tomorrow where I will probably survive
the gorge swing but get horribly injured when the driver finds me
whose cattle horns me and eltan nicked.
we all went out for a group meal last night at a traditional English
pub which was really good. They sold Boddingtons there and I was
nearly in tears of excitement while I was waiting for it. I have
never tasted anything as good in all my life. The only problem was
that it cost me about 3 quid. Not a lot I know but when you think
my meal cost me 2 and a bottle of wine cost 1 or less it's pretty
steep. I only had the one then went back to local bottled stuff
for about 20p per bottle.
The night before I went out with a couple of the other guys and
the barman from our campground. The first place we went was a pretty
run of the mill club full of white Zimbabweans and south Africans.
WE stayed here for an hour or so then went to one of the barmans
local places. WE drove in to one of the shadiest looking parts of
town and rolled up to this hard as nails rude boy ghetto gangster
hang out. Max the barman, being a local black guy blended straight
in, however we stood out like saw thumbs and it wasn't pleasant.
Max said "it's ok, people are friendly, you'll be ok. Just
don't talk to anyone and watch your pockets. If you get hassle tell
them you're with me!" I sat glued to my seat all night trying
to look relaxed, and whenever we wanted to go to the loo max would
have to bodyguard us. It was enjoyable never the less and I got
hammered for freeish so that was a bonus.
I'm still waiting to find out if Ive got malaria, the symptoms
take 2 or so weeks to some out so if Im not suffering in a
week then Ill be ok. There is no malaria from here on down.
I'm really looking forward to going home now, I am enjoying the
trip again more now because I know I am home soon, the last week
has gone really quick and I reckon the rest will fly by.
Ok Im up to date again. se you soon.
Dunk.
Episode twenty Crazy Madness
Hi all
It's been a while since I last got a chance to write and Ive
done loads in that time.
A week or so ago I did the gorge swing in Tanzania - the only one
in the world. 52 metre (or 3.5 seconds) freefall, and a 110 mph
swing right in the treetops = very scary stuff. I did the swing
4 times, 1 step off, 1 tandem backwards, and 2 backflips! All on
video for your viewing pleasure. Honestly the scariest thing I have
ever done.
Also did rap jumping and zip line across the gorge superman style.
All good fun.
Spent the other night at a cheetah sanctuary and got to play with
some cheetahs which was cool. We also got to see the scary wild
ones get fed and I nearly pooed my pants when two of them jumped
in the truck to nick the box of meat. Got some good pix though.
I'm in Namibia at the moment, which is pretty weird, lots of sand
and pretty cold. I'm planning to do quad biking on the dunes, as
well as sandboarding and a skydive; all should be done in the next
4 days.
I haven't been getting too drunk lately, apart from the other night
when I wasnt planning to drink. Not that I dont want
to drink but I keep getting heartburn so it's not fun.
I should be in South Africa on the 25th I think, then thats
the end.
See ya soon
Dunk xx
Episode twentyone I am extreeeme!!!
Well hello my pretties,
I am still here in Swakopmund after a couple of days of fun stuff.
I went sandboarding on the massive dunes for 4 hours in the morning,
which was really cool. I picked it up really quick, enough for me
to have fun but I'm still obviously not that good. I did lie down
boarding too where they stick you on a piece of waxed up chip board,
lie you on your belly and fire you down the dune at a stupid speed.
A really stupid idea but excellent fun never the less. There was
a bit of a jump in the run and I nearly ripped the old family jewels
off on the way down but I was laughing too much to care. The only
annoying thing about the sandboarding was the fact that you have
to walk back up the dunes which really takes it out of you; Im
still aching now, 2 days later.
After a couple of hours rest a load of us went quadbiking. This
was a good laugh; it wasn't that fast but it was fun just ripping
up and down the dunes. I was going for full cheesiness effect with
my open face helmet and my big aviators, so I looked like some old
school American cop, most amusing.
Yesterday 7 of us went skydiving. This was totally wicked; they
took us on a 35 minute flight over the dunes and the coast so we
could see the vastness of Namibia. The dunes look absolutely amazing
at ground level and 10 timed better from up there. We climbed to
10,500 feet, hung out of the door with crystal clear visibility,
hardly any wind and warm air blowing in our faces, then jumped out.
The freefall was about 30 seconds so I had enough time to mouth
the odd thing to the cameraman and then the canopy opened, giving
us about 5 or 6 minutes flight before landing. All in all a totally
wicked experience.
I got videos from all of these activities, as well as 24 pictures
from the skydive which I have yet to develop.
We leave here tomorrow and drive to the Orange River nature reserve
to do something nature based like sticking our hands in big animals
mouths or something, then drive down towards s.africa.
I want to stay in this town for a while longer because it is really
cool. All the people are geared up towards extreme sports (I even
managed to get a copy of ride bmx which I am well stoked on) and
the bars all play wicked music and moto-x videos, so I am well entertained.
The restaurants are really good too. I went to a German restaurant
yesterday and had a leg of pig and 2 beers, which came to about
3quid, so you can't really go wrong.
I'm going to go now and buy loads of cheap camera film and read
my new magazine.
1 week left, woo hoo!!
See ya soon.
Dunk
Episode twentytwo The End!!
Hi all
I am now in SOUTH AFRICA!!!! YAY!! Got to SA yesterday and Cape
Town This morning. Do you no what that means? Yes boys and girls,
the trip is complete. No more bushcamps, no more putting up tents
in the rain, no more whinging about my horrible cooking, no more
tour leaders telling us what where when how and why.
But also no more gorge swings, skydives, scuba diving, fancy bars,
harsh drinking games or criminal shenanigans.
All in all I have to say it has been a wicked time, I haven't enjoyed
every minute but Im glad I did it. Now Im going to bore
you all to tears for the next 6 months with my wacky stories and
endless photos. It's going to be weird not living out of a locker
when I get home. And I think I will ease myself back in to normal
life slowly, at least Ill spend a week or so sleeping in a
tent in the garden and washing in the cove brook.
Cape town is wicked. I've been walking around all day and Im
knackered. The city is well modern and not that expensive considering.
The weather is in the mid 40's so Im sweating like Jeremy
beadle in a glove shop but the shops are all air con.
I booked my flight home and the earliest available was March 6th
(home on 7th after 14 hour flight) so put it in your diaries fboro
people so you can get me darunkered.
This gives me plenty of time to look around this place, I might
even do something cultural like take a trip to the top of Table
Mountain overlooking the city. We'll see.
That's me, that's the trip over with, See y'all soon.
Dunky x
