Comp 01
'Rampage'
Guildford Comp
July 02
Ah,
Guildford comp.. always a pleasure, never a chore.
Guildford
comp is always a cool day. This year it was called 'Attack of the
Space Monkeys' or something? Not sure why, but enough of that nonsense.
After
almost all of the massive claiming they were going to enter, only
two actually did (well I spose thats better than the one
that did last year).
First
up was the fruitboot comp, but we missed that (shame). Then came
the bmx comp. Mayo pulled out at the last minute due to injury,
but we still got to see Forge, Merlin, Gaz and Guffrey enter. All
rode well but the honours went to Gaz, deservedly so. Back rails
were destroyed by him and Gus, well done boyos.
Next
up was under 16s skate. Which lil' Cliff of ye Woking Crew won if
I remember right. Well done.
Over
16s skate should have been where we represented the most, but only
Ad and Mike entered (and Mike had to be pushed into it). Both put
in good runs, but unfortunately Ad couldnt hold onto his crown,
which was torn from his head by Jack from Farnham. Local hero Ben
Coughlan sneaked second place.
Highest
ollie was as tightly contesed as last year, with Jack, Justin and
another guy (sorry) putting in big ol' hops. But, again it came
down to two, this year it was our own Ad again amd Goleta 7 new
boy, Ian Maynard. Ad won finally with a huge leap of 36 inches (now
thats representation for Regiment - nice work Ad).
Best
trick was last. Anyone could enter this. Mike and Ad both did again
but neither pulled their trick. Highlights were Cliff ollieing from
the big quarter into the original one (which can be seen on Come
This Far) and Jacks huge Indy out of the metal flyoff into the driveway.
But Guffrey took the honours with a massive abubaca on the back
rail of the mini, which Mayo attempted the year before. Get up there.
The
most important thing of the day, however, was lil' Frog winning
back some indy pride in the indy vs tensor sumo wrestle. He defeated
young Brad by a triumphant three pins to none, well done Frog.
